My strategic approach to creating customer and employee value is laser-focused on solving real and immediate problems, mitigating potentially costly future risks, and pursuing opportunities in a disciplined manner, to fulfill individual and organizational potential, achieve responsible and sustainable long-term growth, and win together as a team.
End at the Beginning, or Begin with the End in Mind?
I apply both a holistic and modular approach to enabling and driving value creation. This dual perspective allows us to start from any point and work our way towards an understanding of the people, processes, and technologies that make up the systems that run our worlds.
We can begin with a specific challenge and work our way towards a solution, or we can work backwards from a desired future state to solve problems, avoid risks, and capitalize on opportunities. There is no predefined or linear path; we choose our own adventure together.
Not every challenge or solution is - or needs to be - technological in nature. Sometimes what we need is to make sense of what is happening in our world and within our systems, how these systems behave and interact with each other, and where we can find leverage points within these systems to enable positive change.
Method in the Madness, or Madness in the Methods?
I do not subscribe to any specific strategies or processes, but my systemic and systematic approach to creating organizational and individual value draws from a number of well-known frameworks and prescriptive methodologies to apply the right solutions to the right problems.
You will find core principles from Design Thinking, Jobs To Be Done (JTBD), Theory of Constraints (ToC), Domain-Driven Design (DDD), Kaizen, and many others in my delivery methodology repertoire, but I do not adhere to any single framework - not even my own - when designing new systems or guiding clients towards innovation and responsible growth.
Instead, I focus on applying the right tools and thinking to framing and understanding the problem space, aligning to personal and organizational strategies and goals, designing systems that put the human experience first, and creating the conditions for enabling new levels of value creation for all vested stakeholders.
Confidently Move Forward with a Trusted Advisor
Not everyone has the same need and budget, and I have designed a number of options to optimize our time together and ensure you get exponential value from our engagement and potential ongoing relationship.
One-time, no-commitment engagement options include pay-as-you-go half-hour and full-hour coaching, and half-day or full-day focused micro-consulting.
Ongoing engagement options include half-hour or full-hour weekly “Concierge” subscriptions, and half-day or full-day weekly “Fractional” retainers for the deepest possible level of interaction and insight.
Solutions for Strategic, Tactical, or Transformative Outcomes
Some people and organizations are wired to be outcome-driven, and begin with the end in mind. If you prefer to work backward from a goal or vision to discover the paths forward, we can start with a number of Solution Spaces to play in and focus on.
I have defined a set of Solution Spaces to represent the highest potential value applications of my knowledge and experience to your existing team and organizational capabilities, to collaboratively address the unique opportunities, risks, and challenges you are responsible for solving.
These solutions range from tactical interventions to strategic transformations, offering a structured way to grow business and technical capabilities, and align individual and team goals with organizational strategies and objectives.
Navigating Challenges in Problem, Risk and Opportunity Spaces
Whether in the pursuit of strategic, tactical, or transformative outcomes, or simply in keeping up with daily life in a chaotic world, challenges are inevitable and to be expected. It’s how we deal with these challenges that determines the possible potential outcomes.
I have broken down a set of high-impact challenges that either enable or block the flow of value through your network of stakeholders into three categories: Problem Spaces, Risk Spaces, and Opportunity Spaces. Each represents a different aspect or dimension of both the obstacles and potential that you and your organization can face.
By navigating these Challenge Spaces together, we can develop targeted strategies or draw from structured Solution Spaces to address problems, mitigate risks, and pursue opportunities, ensuring that you are equipped to handle whatever life decides to throw at you.
Applying Levers to Enable New Value
I first apply what I refer to as "Value Enablement Levers" when analyzing challenges and designing solutions. Value Enablement Levers are strategic interventions within a system that, like leverage points in systems thinking, can create outsized impacts with targeted actions.
By identifying and utilizing these levers, organizations can optimize processes, mitigate risks, and unlock new avenues for growth. These levers focus on key areas where small changes can drive significant value across the entire system independent of the specific challenges being addressed or solutions being explored.
The concept behind Value Enablement Levers is to apply a combination of “Core Competencies” and “Force Multipliers” to address organizational and individual challenges and design solutions that create stakeholder value.
Core Competencies represent the deep technical and strategic expertise that I bring to the table, built over a 30+ year career in designing bleeding-edge strategic technology systems.
Force Multipliers are subtle but profound mindset shifts that unlock new ways of thinking, and new potential for value creation.
Making Things Happen Together
I am here to help you recognize and achieve your potential, whether as an individual looking for career guidance or professional coaching, a team looking to evolve its processes or capabilities, or a forward-looking organization looking for new ways to create customer and employee value.
Our journey begins by defining how we will work together and how I can best serve you as a strategic architect and advisor. I have designed a modular and flexible engagement model to cover a broad spectrum of needs, attention spans, and budgets, from occasional “Phona-a-Friend” access, to an ongoing and long-term strategic relationship as a Fractional leader.
